This week’s card for the week is Five of Water from the Angel Tarot Cards by Doreen Virtue and Radleigh Valentine.
Similar to last week’s card, this week’s guidance is asking us to see the positive in order to move on. The joy that is supposed to permeate this time of year is often just not there, or tempered with sadness and memories of those who are no longer with us, lack of means to surround oneself in the material trappings that our culture promotes, loneliness, sadness are just as real for many as joy and delight. Then comes New Year’s and the concept of starting afresh which, in turn, often brings up a review of this past year. Again, this is not always the happy celebration that it is promoted to be. This card is pointing out the possibility of getting stuck in the lower emotions that may come up this week. It is asking us to intentionally once and for all let go of the “could have beens,” the “should have beens,” the “what if’s,” and the “if onlys,” as well as all the judgments and punishments we put on ourselves as a result of things not going as we had planned or hoped.
Perhaps the human tendency to rehash the past and/or stay in that state of hopelessness and despair is the ego’s way of avoiding the feelings associated with that experience. There is a strong sense that those difficult feelings point to our own ego telling us that we made a mistake, that we may not be worthy. We rehash in order to avoid feeling. This card calls us to deal with those emotions, feel them, experience them, allow ourselves to mourn, but not to get stuck in that space, to accept, forgive and move forward. It is asking us to realize that nothing can be gained by over harshness and judgment of self, others or situations. As I type, I am getting strong messages to remind everyone that we are not broken and we do not need to be fixed. The ego needs to be reprogrammed to realize that the over harsh judgments and expectations we have put on ourselves (or others have put on us) are not accurate. So, we tried, but we “missed the mark” – the point is that we tried and that is the way of the journey, an important part of what propels us to grow and to learn and to move forward. The positive may not be readily apparent at the moment, but it is most assuredly there. Even if one only takes a lesson away about what not to repeat, that is a very powerful positive.
The visual shows three cups down and two cups up. Whereas the downed cups are less brilliant and fading, the two standing cups are alive with bright colors, all the colors of the chakras, a dolphin swims in front, bubbles trail up to the surface. There is movement and life. It is time to move through what was and open up to what is.
This coming week is one in which the emotional pendulum can swing quickly between extremes. As the lower emotions come up, feel them and then allow them to float away and fade with the fallen cups. Then jump on that pendulum, and swing up to higher emotions, entering a new year, a new phase, lighter because you are no long emotionally dragged down by or rehashing what did not happen as you had hoped, planned or anticipated. New opportunities lie ahead!
This is a season of Light. Rather than removing or avoiding the darkness, we are called find our own Divine Light within that darkness and let it shine.
